Rotarians Elevate 2018 International Day of Peace Celebrations

It's Peace Day 2018. The United Nations General Assembly unanimously approved a resolution in 1981 (sponsored by the United Kingdom and Costa Rica) that created the very first International Day of Peace. Global communities increasingly embraced the UN's idea of greeting neighbors, welcoming strangers and creating a more peaceful world, annually, on September 21st, or World Peace Day.

New Book Features Meditations on Peace

Soft as Water is a book of 52 meditations on peace--- peace within ourselves, peace in our relationships, and peace in our world.  Each meditation consists of a one-page reading followed by a brief commentary.  The readings are excerpts taken from many voices and sources---movies and memoirs, novels and history, folk tales and anecdote. The book is endorsed by Rotarian Action Group For Peace Co-Founder Harry Anastasiou. 

Rotary Peace Fellow Promotes Positive Peace

When I learned about the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), a think tank dedicated to using empirical research to better understand the drivers of peace, as a Rotary Peace Fellow in 2016, I was fascinated. The idea that peace – which often lives in a lofty realm of aspiration and emotions – could be articulated in concrete metrics, underpinned by data, and visualized through heat maps and charts was new and profoundly impactful to me.

Rotarian Action Groups Unite to Clean The Rivers of the World

I began the Cleaning the Rivers of the World project five years ago in México D4140 with the Ameca River Project and it has grown to other countries through Rotary clubs and other service groups. Currently, WASRAG and ESRAG have adopted this project as their own and I'm pleased Rotarian Action Group For Peace is now helping us promote it. 

 

 

 

Finnish Peace Movement makes Plea for Nuclear Disarmament at Summit

Former MP, half a year as a activist of the international peace movement Iikka Taipale (SD), greeted the video with Russian and US presidents. According to the story, the video depicted on the balcony of the Old Student House is a salute of the Finnish Peace Movement to Trump and Putin. In his speech, Taipale tells President Trump that with his colorful speech he opened the Pandora magazine and let go of the ghost of nuclear disarmament.
