Amparo Buendia Hernandez
Director/ At Large
Bogota Centenario Rotary Club
District 4281
Amparo Buendía is from Bogotá, Colombia. She worked as a Pediatric Oncologist for 25 years. When she retired eight years ago, her colleague Myriam Sanchez invited her to be a Rotarian. Her District is 4281 and her Rotary Club is Bogota Centenario, established at Rotary´s first centennial. She was RC President 2012-13 and District Grants Subcommittee Chairman 2011-2014. Her club has successfully developed eight matching grants. At present, she supports a District Committee for training on Global Grants.
Her country is working very hard to achieve a peace agreement with FARC, the oldest guerrilla in South America. They have had an armed conflict for more than 50 years with nearly six million displaced people by violence. Recently they had the visit of Frederic Leclerk, a leader from South Africa: at first Mandela’s opponent and after a strong ally. Listening to his opinions about our Peace Process and his advices to our President J.M.Santos was very inspiring and motivating for her.
They are preparing two projects in order to make the Rotarian´s work on peace visible, with two strong allies (Mennonites’ social branch and TAAP Foundation), with remarkable on the ground experience with displaced women and youngsters. www.fundacionmencoldes.org www.fundaciontaap.com
